If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure, and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI® Open Water Diver course – the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba course. Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course. To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.
Academic:
- The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development (online) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
- Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
- Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, and a tank.
Tenative Class Schedule
*Please note that all times listed below are subject to change at the instructor's discretion.
Before the class begins: Please come to the store at least a week prior to the class to complete the items below. The earlier you take care of them, the better prepared you will be for the class.
- Purchase and complete the PADI Elearning course
- Purchase your personal gear (mask, snorkel, boots, fins, and gloves) **If you are completing the ocean portion in Monterey, make sure your boots and gloves are AT LEAST 5mm thick**
- Come in to the store and get sized for your rental gear (wetsuit, hooded vest, and BCD)
- Read and fill out the Medical Questionnaire. If there are any questions answered "yes," you will need to get a doctor's note to get in the pool.
First Weekend
Friday: Class (at Any Water Dive Center): 6:30pm-9:30pm
Saturday: Class & Pool***: Time TBD
Sunday: Pool: Time TBD
***There will be a swim test conducted at the pool. It will consist of a 200 yard swim of any stroke and 10 minutes treading water.***
Second Weekend
Saturday: Ocean (San Carlos Beach in Monterey) 6:45am-2:00pm
Sunday: Ocean 6:45am-2:00pm
After the Class
The Monday following after your ocean weekend, you will need to return your rental gear so that we can properly sanitize it before our next class. Once your instructor processes your certification, you will receive an email with your temporary certification card! It will take about two weeks for the physical card to be mailed to the store and we will call you once it arrives.
Costs
The cost of the class is $425 (this includes the instructor fee, gear rental, and pool access). The materials you will need are the PADI Elearning is approximately $220+ (this is subject to change per PADI) and your own personal gear $300-800 (price varies depending on what you pick).
